FlameThrower Coleus

FlameThrower™ Sun Coleus has attractive, serrated foliage on upright plants that adds color and contrast to landscapes and containers. With so many different varieties of sun coleus on the market now, there is one for everyone’s taste. FlameThrower Coleus makes a big impact in landscapes with vibrant, contrasting colors and textures.

FlameThrower is versatile and low maintenance. The plant habit is compact to medium size. Foliage colors are bold and uniquely shaped. The FlameThrower Coleus series does well in mass plantings and can be used in monoculture or combination planters. The flowers are insignificant. Coleus is used for its colorful foliage and flowering is unwanted. This coleus is late to never flowering so gardeners don’t have to deal with many flower spikes.

They are called ‘Sun Coleus’ due to the ability of these varieties to perform well in full sun and should not be confused with regular coleus varieties such as Wizard Coleus that require shade. Sun Coleus are probably one of the easiest annuals to grow.

FlameThrower Coleus does best in well-drained soil. It thrives in full sun but can be planted in partly shady areas. If it does flower, the bloom spikes will attract pollinators. Gardeners can pinch the blooms off at their discretion. Pinching flower spikes off will help keep the plants compact.

Plant in full sun to part sun 14-16″ apart. Grows 12-18″ tall and 16-18″ wide.

We grow FlameThrower™ Coleus in our #4.5 Premium Annual size. The varieties are Chipotle, Habanero, Salsa Roja, Salsa Verde, Serrano and Spiced Curry shown below left to right.
