Pink Muhly Grass (Muhlenbergia capillaris)
Common Name: Pink Muhly Grass, Cotton Candy Grass, Gulf Muhly Grass
Muhlenbergia capillaris or Pink Muhly Grass is an attractive, hardy, native grass found in the eastern and central US. Pink Muhly Grass grows in clumps and explodes in wispy, pinkish-red flowers in the fall. The clumps of grass in full bloom resemble pink clouds or pink cotton candy.
Muhly grass is a warm-season perennial grass that heat and drought tolerant but also tolerates wet conditions. As a native grass, it is well suited for ornamental uses in landscapes. It grows naturally in thin, rocky soils and clay, and is low maintenance. Its clouds of pink bloom attract butterflies and other pollinators.
Plant in part sun (at least 6 hours) to full sun. Space 36-72″ apart. Grows 24-36″ tall and 34-36″ wide.
Pink Muhly Grass is available in our Quart Native Perennials size category.
