Nepeta, or Catmint, is an attractive, easy-to-grow perennial that has many cultivars in various shades of blue. They grow well in a wide range of soils and are drought tolerant. Due to their easy-to-grow reputation, they are a great choice for perennial gardening beginners.

They are resistant to the foraging of deer and rabbits, but cats are literally addicted to them. Nepeta cataria (common catnip) and a few other Nepeta contain nepetalactone which causes temporary euphoria in cats.

After the first flush of blue flowers you can cut the plant back to promote new and more abundant blooms. The blooms attract pollinators.
