The mums we call “Novelty” are colors and bloom types that are great mums but they don’t fit very well into our regular mum color breakdown. For example, some customers generally prefer decorative blooms over daisy blooms so we do not use many daisy bloom varieties in our regular production except when the daisy bloom is the better variety.
Over the years we have done extensive trials and have found some great mums. Starting in 2023, we decided to grow these mums and offer them as a separate group we call Novelty Mums. What we are calling Novelty are mums that are either pink or lavender or have daisy blooms, spider blooms or two-toned blooms or are a combination of any of those.
Below we have listed out the Novelty mums we plan to grow for this fall. For ordering purposes, we are going to list them as “Mum Novelty” and not as specific colors. When it comes time to load an order, we will pick out multiple colors to ship as Novelties. The number of colors will depend on the size of the order. For an example, an order for 5 Novelty Mums will get 2-3 different mums while an order for a full rack of 32 could get 4-8 different mums. These numbers are estimates. The actual breakdowns will depend on the week we load and how many Novelty Mums we have ready that week.
We plan to ship the Novelties at the stage where some of the buds are cracking to a few blooms open so that you can see what color it is.
Disclaimer #1: Several of the varieties listed below are new items and/or are still in our trials to see how they perform. This means that they are not varieties that we feel we can say for certain they are good varieties and will perform well enough to be sellable. Therefore, these may not be available at shipping time due to poor performance.
Disclaimer #2: In a few instances, we are growing what could be considered a novelty mum in our regular production. This is because those items are the best performing variety we have found for that ship week. For example, Bonnie Red is the best early week 37 red we grow and we use it as our week 37 Red.
