Red Hot Poker Kniphofia

kniphofia red hot poker

Red Hot Poker Kniphofia is a unique plant that is a must for any perennial garden.  The tubular petals sprout from a central spike with yellow on the bottom ending in red on the top which makes it look like a glowing, red-hot poker. Blooms change color as they mature and the colors include reds, oranges and yellows. The stem is long and sturdy standing over a clump of long, grassy foliage.

Kniphofia attracts pollinators, and they bloom all summer long. Hummingbird are particularly attracted to their blooms. They tolerate heat and drought, and deer and rabbits don’t bother them.

They are easy to grow and are virtually disease free. Kniphofias provide vertical interest to perennial flower beds and informal or natural landscape plantings.

Plant in full sun 12-15″ apart. Kniphofia grows 24-36″ tall and 10-14″ wide. Be careful not to plant them where their crown is deeper than 3″.

Kniphofia is available in our Perennials Quart size category.
