Basic Salvia

Salvia, with its dark green leaves and its bright bloom spikes, has long been a popular landscape plant. Along with the color selection, Salvia’s outstanding heat and drought tolerance just add to the plants landscape allure. It will bloom until first frost in autumn.
Plant these beauties and you will attract hummingbirds and butterflies to your garden. If you have problems with deer eating your flowers, fear not, they do not like its herbaceous foliage. Dead flower stalks should be removed to promote new blooms.
Red Salvia is one of the most popular of the colors. It has bright red bloom spikes and dark green leaves. It was a very popular landscape plant decades ago.
Plant in full sun 6” to 8” apart. Grows 12″ to 18″ tall.

Salvia Victoria Blue

Victoria Blue Salvia has bluish green leaves and deep blue flower spikes all summer long. This tough, delicate-looking plant is native to Texas and Mexico and so it loves the heat and can take soil that is a bit on the dry side. Like most other salvia varieties, this one will also attract hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.

Salvia Blue Chill

Blue Chill Salvia has an abundance of pale-blue, icy-looking blooms. The foliage is dark green on study plants. It has a branched habit promoting a lot of stems which delivers the abundance of blooms. The stems and buds have a frosted to them which looks great with the light blue flowers.
Like other Salvia, Blue Chill is heat tolerant and thrives in summer landscapes. It is a little smaller than Mystic Spires Salvia. It also attracts pollinators and is deer resistant.
Plant in full sun 12-18″ apart. It grows 18-24″ tall and 12-18″ wide.

Salvia Black & Bloom

Salvia Black & Bloom has dark, bluish green leaves and deep blue flower spikes all summer long. The leaves are thicker, blooms bigger and stems darker than Black and Blue Salvia. It also blooms earlier and continues blooming with little attention.
This tough, delicate-looking plant is native to Texas and Mexico and so it loves the heat and can take soil that is a bit on the dry side. It’s large size and big bloom spikes make a big impact in landscapes. Like most other salvia varieties, Black & Bloom will also attract hummingbirds, bees and butterflies. To keep it blooming, remove any dead flower stems.
Plant 36” to 48” apart in full sun. Grows 36-48″ tall and 36-48″ wide.

Salvia Purple & Bloom

Salvia Purple & Bloom packs the same flower power as Black & Bloom Salvia. It’s dark purple blooms are held up on dark purple-black stems. The colors contract nicely and really make the purple blooms pop against the darker stems. The foliage is dark green as well.
The mounding plants are fast growing and can really fill out a landscape. It’s a vigorous grower that can reach up to 4 feet wide, but you can still grow it in containers too. The blooms attract pollinators, and Purple & Bloom will bloom from spring to fall. Also the foliage is deer resistant.
Plant in full sun 30-42″ apart. Grows 40-48″ tall and 36-48″ wide.

Salvia Sallyfun™


Salvia Sallyfun™ is a moderately vigorous salvia. It branches well and has a V-shaped growth habit that is covered in bloom stems. The Sallyfun™ series comes in several shades of blue and a pure white. Blue Lagoon is is a darker blooms on dark stems. Deep Ocean is a lighter, medium-blue on dark, blue-green stems, and Pure White has clear white blooms on pale green stems.
Sallyfun™ Salvias are heat tolerant and mildly drought tolerant. The blooms are fragrant and attract pollinators. It blooms all summer long, and it’s long bloom-stems can be used as cut flowers in arrangements. Sallyfun does well in both landscapes and in containers. It is also deer resistant.
Plant Sallyfun™ 10-12″ apart in full sun. Grows 15-24″ tall and 12-18″ wide.
